A purpose-designed, 5,000sq ft vehicle glass fitting and calibration centre has been opened by National Windscreens at the Henley Industrial Park in Coventry.
The new fitting centre is part of a UK-wide infrastructure development strategy designed to keep pace with the increasing number of vehicles that need to have ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) calibration done in workshop conditions. As well as additional fitting and calibration vehicle bays, the new facility provides increased glass storage, training areas and a comfortable customer waiting area.
Chris Page, regional operations director, said: “The team has worked incredibly hard to get the Coventry fitting centre running. This state-of-the-art site gives our technicians the space, advanced equipment and technology needed to deliver the highest possible standards of fitting and calibration. This is supported with an ongoing programme by our learning and development team to ensure that best practices are embedded.
“The increase in the number of vehicle bays allows the technicians to complete a greater amount of ADAS calibrations, which is essential in today’s market. 75% of vehicle manufacturers currently require their vehicles to undergo a static calibration of ADAS in workshop conditions.
“Traditionally, 80% of the jobs were carried out by mobile fitting vans, with 20% done in the fitting centres. With the number of ADAS equipped vehicles on our roads increasing, so will the number of vehicles that will require calibration in our fitting centres,” said Chris.
Andy Rae, UK operations director, said: “The new fitting centre at Coventry is a vital strategic location for National Windscreens. Investing in an advanced infrastructure and operating practices is a crucial part of providing sustainable vehicle glass and calibration solutions for our customers across the UK.”
