Fostering a culture of continuous learning, career progression, and personal growth is a key, long term strategy at National Windscreens. This is underpinned by the ethos of achieving individual and business success through a structured learning and development programme.
With a focus on creating clear pathways for employees to build rewarding careers, National Windscreens offers ongoing training and mentorship, ensuring every team member is supported in reaching their full potential.
Paul Sartain, learning, development and training manager, is driving the programme at National Windscreens:
“We offer a comprehensive learning journey for new starters in the business and the pipeline for progression within National Windscreens is transparent which motivates the team. The culture is enhanced by continuous training which develops the individuals in leadership, technical knowledge and communication at the heart of our strategy.
The culture at National Windscreens is based on keeping it simple, empowering the team, working smarter, caring about what we do, and working together.
“The focus on employee empowerment gives the team the tools to evolve, with challenges to achieve and the opportunities to grow. We always look to develop team members into senior staff, as they can transfer their technical knowledge and appreciation of the customers’ needs into their teams.
“We aim to attract, retain and develop the best talent in the UK. The culture at National Windscreens is based on keeping it simple, empowering the team, working smarter, caring about what we do, and working together. Utilising the experience of our people within the business is essential to guiding the new starters and helping them to build a fulfilling career at National Windscreens.
“We have a brilliant training team that provide ongoing learning with the latest digital learning software, designed to advance their understanding of the industry and develop the skills needed to provide our customers with the outcome they deserve,” said Paul.
Paul Taylor, technical training manager, oversees the inductions of the new starters:
“New trainee technicians in England and Wales begin their career at the dedicated fitting and Advanced Driver-Assisted System (ADAS) calibration centre in Leicester. The training centre is the ideal environment for technicians to begin their training.
“At the Leicester fitting and training centre, our trainee technicians gain a good understanding of theoretical and practical automotive glazing technology and processes through their initial training. As they develop, trainees will have the opportunity to learn the techniques and skills that can lead to gaining qualifications in Automotive Glazing, at NVQ levels 2 and 3.
Paul Taylor has been central to implementing the training programme.
“In addition to a dedicated training and support team, we have experienced and knowledgeable technicians who work with the trainees to help them learn the practical skills and knowledge they need. Trainees often work on ‘live’ jobs under the supervision of the training team, so that when they complete their training programme, they will feel comfortable working on vehicles when back at branch, or when working on customers’ vehicles with their mobile colleagues.
“For technicians based at one of our ADAS calibration centres, we have created a training programme to ensure that they can deliver a top-level service when working on vehicles fitted with this equipment. Technicians can also complete an ADAS-specific NVQ as a follow-on qualification.
“At National Windscreens, we are continually working to ensure that every aspect of our training will ensure our new starters have the knowledge and confidence to provide the highest standard of service in our sector,” said Paul.
